"A great classic of Pyrenean mountaineering; high mountain lakes and alpine meadows to enjoy your ascent with all five senses"
La Pica d'Estats is the highest peak in Catalonia at 3,143m; located just at the northern end of the Vall Ferrera. A wonderful valley of the Pallars Sobirà, very quiet and not very crowded. This is a two-day activity: On the first day we will approach the Sotllo lake (4h), where we will spend the night in individual camping tents with capacity for 2 people, next to the lake. On the second day we will attack the peak of "la Pica" from a good position and we will return. It must be taken into account that we will move through high mountain terrain, so we will have to be in good physical shape and be agile when progressing and climbing over the irregularities that the terrain presents us. For this reason, it is aimed at people who are in good physical shape and who do sports regularly. In order to better understand the presence of this wonderful mountain, the guide will give us details of geology, flora and fauna in an agile and easy format.
The Program
The meeting point will be in the town of Àreu at 11:00 am. Before starting the activity, we will share food and camping tents, which we will share between 2 people. On the first day we will walk 5 hours between high mountain meadows, cross rivers and enter the Vall Ferrera until we reach the bucolic Sotllo lake, where we will camp. On the second day we will have a notable change of scenery; now the valley, with a wider width, shows us its highest peaks still with some snowdrifts. And under the watchful eye of the "Pica" we will make our way, crossing an old glacier with little technical difficulty and some sporadic climbing. Until we reach the roof of Catalonia and enjoy a spectacular view in the middle of mountains that exceed 3,000m in height.
